Nursing Decay:
Case 1. Fourteen-month-old
white male. Medical history was uneventful. Child manifested discomfort.
Clinical examination revealed caries lesions on lingual surfaces of maxillary
anterior teeth, and which involved the pulp. The child slept while retaining
the nipple of formula-filled bottle in the mouth.
Case 2. Two and one-half-year-old black male. Medical
history was uneventful. Dental history revealed child was breastfed until two
years of age. Parent allowed child to nurse and sleep on breast, three times a
day for one and two hours, and at night for many more hours. Clinically, both
teeth were grossly carious with pulp involvement.
